The Lexus LS 400 was introduced to America by Toyota in January 1989,
went on sale in the Fall of 1989 with the 1990 model year, and won
many awards as an outstanding luxury car in the automotive media. And,
like many luxury cars of that era, it came with air suspension - four
wheel air struts that now cost about $1,000 each to replace as they go
bad, but as an option and not on all cars.
The Lexus Air Suspension system is subject to many problems but TIME
is its biggest enemy. The air struts are made with rubber, which tends
to dry-rot in five to seven years. The LS 400's air supension's longevity
is determined by how much extreme heat and cold to which it is subjected;
extreme conditions degrade the components.
This is still a wonderful car after all these years, and if you have one,
but the air suspension is shot, Suspension Alternatives has an answer for
you. We now sell a conversion that replaces all four air struts with luxury
quality passive struts for less than the cost of one replacement air strut,
and we ship them with full instructions for the do it yourselfer to replace
them at home.
